Overview of Ministry Activity

Abiding Light Ministries, Inc. (also referred to as “the Ministry”) is an existing non-profit organization that began operations in May 2000 to help curb poverty and suffering in the Andra Pradesh district of India. The Ministry currently leases a building next to its church, where it cares for 50 orphans from Nalgonda. These children are provided with a number of amenities necessary for basic health and happiness, such as education, community, medical support, grants and scholarships, as well as faith. Upon funding, Abiding Light Ministries seeks to complete construction of a 200-bed orphanage set upon five acres of land. Currently, the Ministry has built a security wall surrounding the property, established clean water wells and electricity, and broken ground on three primary buildings for the facility. The completed project will allow Abiding Light Ministries to continue and enhance its care for local orphans, providing comfort and education in a region otherwise characterized by poverty and despair. There are currently more than 12 million children without parents in India due to poverty, famine, drought, natural disasters, and diseases. AIDS alone has orphaned two million children, and India has the third largest number of HIV and AIDS cases in the world, below South Africa and Nigeria. The government neither implements nor supports orphan relief programs, and no other orphanages exist in Nalgonda. Abiding Light Ministries has established 75 churches throughout the Andra Pradesh region that take in orphans and provide education and support, and yet the orphan crisis still has barely been mitigated. The Ministry operates in the Residential Care industry, which includes establishments that provide 24-hour support for children. Abiding Light Ministries has successfully established itself as a charitable organization that provides for the needs of orphans in India. The Ministry obtained Non-Government Organization (NGO) status in 2007. The Ministry will promote its services largely through a comprehensive website, www.abidinglight.org. This spiritually enhanced website features blogs, testimonies, stories, and photographs that highlight its mission and goals. The Ministry will also rely on orphan referrals from pastors and local church members in India. Furthermore, Abiding Light Ministries’ marketing plan entails downloadable brochures, as well as partnerships with government and non-government organizations. Through its efforts, the Ministry intends to instill hope and strength in the lives of orphans throughout India.

Plans and Goals

• Increase the number of orphans cared for from 50-100 in Year 2, and from 100-200 in Year 3 • Develop a sustainable and positive outreach • Achieve ~$165,000, ~$180,000, and ~$204,000 in donated funds in Year 1, Year 2, and Year 3, respectively Since 2002, Abiding Light Ministries has been working with local pastors in the Andra Pradesh district of southern India to relieve suffering and provide health and spiritual services. The Ministry has established 75 churches throughout the region since its inception and continues to foster hope and build a strong relationship for villages in need. In 2006, Abiding Light Ministries’ founder witnessed the hopelessness and helplessness of villagers in Nalgonda struggling with poverty. Particularly, there were several orphans in the village without families or homes. The Ministry has worked to provide these children with the necessary facilities for healthy lives and currently serves 25 children in addition to 25 orphans being cared for and given a home in a public school until suitable space is available in its facility. Abiding Light Ministries holds Pastor’s Conferences to train and equip local pastors in caring for children and supporting their progress. Hundreds of orphans in the region still need basic human services and a place to call home. To solve this problem, Abiding Light Ministries has begun construction of an orphanage with more than 200 beds. It sits on five acres of land and is surrounded by a security wall for added safety. Clean water wells have been drilled and electricity has been installed on premises. The Ministry has broken ground for construction of the first of three buildings for the orphanage. Foundations have been laid, and the Ministry is currently underway in finishing the project.
